Michael Gandolfini, son of the late James Gandolfini, is set to play a younger version of his dad's famous character, Tony Soprano, in a prequel film to HBO's long running and much loved series The Sopranos.

The actor's son had a breakout role on TV show The Deuce in 2017 and has been gaining experience since then, but it was his mastery of his late father's mannerisms and strikingly similar looks that landed him the role in The Many Saints of Newark, set in New Jersey in 1967. Vera Farmiga, Jon Bernthal, Billy Magnussen and Corey Stoll also feature in the ensemble drama which is being penned by the original show's creator, David Chase, and starts shooting soon.
